Pjanic Intends to Stay

Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic held a press conference after this morning’s training session. The Bosnian international stated his intention to stay with Roma and even stated a new contract with the club may be in the works. You can see the transcript below:

Thoughts on the midfield?

“There are a number of us in that position and whoever’s on form will be in the team. The coach will find the right system. We need to do what we can to let the new signings settle. There are some great players who can help us to achieve success. Then it’ll be up to the coach to decide who to pick. It’s always nice to have big names in the squad.”

Do you want to stay at Roma?

“I don’t want to leave. Everyone at the club knows that. I’ve always wanted to stay here. I want to give everything to start the season well. I don’t know about the financial situation at the club. A new contract? It doesn’t happen overnight. We’re talking about it. The desire is there and we’ll see what happens in the future.”

Regarding his versatility as a midfielder:

“Is playmaker my best position? I’ve already spoken to the coach about the position he plans to play me in. He wants us to be technical in midfield and he often wants to control the game through ball possession and getting high up the field. It’s a position he’s already asked me to play during training sessions and it works for me. Plus I’ve played in several different positions during my career. We’ll see where I play in future.”
