For the first time in their 86 year history, A.S Roma has started their season with 5 victories in their first 5 matches. The Rudi Garcia era has started out in the most prolific fashion possible.

Continuing their trend of struggling in the first half, Roma saw very few chances on goal in the opening half. The performance of the trident of Marquinho-Borriello-Gervinho created few chances and did not allow Roma an opportunity to pull ahead at the Stadio Luigi Ferarris. Sampdoria proved to be the more dangerous team in the first half by controlling possession and creating good build-up play. Roma seemed relieved to hear the half-time whistle as they entered the break tied 0-0 with the Ligurians.

As the second half started, Roma saw their manager Rudi Garcia sent to the stands for dissent, which created another obstacle for the Giallorossi. The dead-lock was finally broken when centerback Mehdi Benatia scored a superb goal in the box after playing a one-two with Kevin Strootman. Sampdoria responded to the goal strongly by forcing Morgan De Sanctis into two superb saves. The result was secure when Gervinho was able to open his Serie A account with a cool finish past Junior Costa.

Roma enter Sunday’s match on top of the Serie A table and will look to continue their run of form versus Bologna.
