Roma are returning to the transfer market to try and provide Gian Piero Gasperini with a new attacking player.
Following Lyon’s elimination from the Champions League preliminary rounds at the hands of Fenerbahçe, the Giallorossi have intensified their contact with Malick Fofana, a Belgian winger they have long been following and consider a fit for the coach’s tactical needs.
Fofana was the protagonist against Fenerbahçe with a spectacular left-footed volley, a move that confirmed the Belgian’s technical ability and ability to make an impact even in high-level matches.
Furthermore, there appear to be positive signs regarding his physical condition following the serious ankle injury he suffered last year.
The deal must maintain a sustainable annual impact on the Giallorossi’s balance sheet. Between the amortization of the player’s contract and his gross salary, Il Corriere dello Sport writes, the overall investment must remain between €10 and €12 million per year.
Before making a definitive move for Fofana, however, Roma must complete several outgoing transactions. The player identified to free up space in the squad is Robinio Vaz, who is now close to a move to Hull City.
Negotiations with the English club are based on a €2 million loan with a €30 million option to buy, but a final agreement between the player and the British club is still pending. Vaz is finalizing the final details of his contract before giving the green light to the transfer.
