Milan Skriniar knows Gasperini well. He faced him many times during his time at Inter and knows exactly what it means to face his team.
Now their paths cross again, this time in the Champions League: the Fenerbahce defender spoke at a press conference ahead of tomorrow’s match against Roma in Istanbul.
His first thought goes to the Giallorossi coach and a style of play that Skriniar learned in Italy: “I faced Gasperini many times when he was at Atalanta. They were always very difficult matches, because his teams play very physical football and run a lot. With Roma, I think the quality level has risen even further.”
Fenerbahce, however, has studied the Giallorossi in detail, and Skriniar assures that the team is ready: “The team is well prepared, the coach and his staff have analyzed everything and shown us every detail. Today we have our last training session before this big match, and I think we are ready to fight.”
Paulo Dybala and Donyell Malen will inevitably be among the main threats. Skriniar acknowledges Roma’s positive moment and the quality Gasperini has at his disposal: “They’re doing very well in the league, they have strong players like the ones you mentioned.”
To stop them, according to the former Inter player, the work of the defensive line won’t be enough. Fenerbahce will need a collective effort: “We need to work together, not just the defense but the entire team, to limit their strengths and try to get a good result. We’ll have to be focused and put in a great performance.”
