Roma’s start to the season has been absolutely positive, and Donyell Malen’s has been astonishing.

The Dutch striker has led the Giallorossi with goals, and after the first month of Serie A, he’s already scored six goals in five league appearances.

The former PSV, Borussia Dortmund, and Aston Villa player has thus earned the special title of “Player of the Month” for August.

He scored a hat-trick on his debut against Fiorentina at the Olimpico, a brace in Lecce a week later, and sealed the deal in Turin, where it all began (where he earned his first goal for Roma).

Having beaten off competition from Lautaro Martinez and his pursuers, the Trigoria club’s number 14 is now aiming to become the club’s all-time top scorer in a single season: the record belongs to Edin Dzeko, who scored 29 goals in the 2016-2017 season.

More than that: if he continues at this pace, the Oranje striker could attempt to break the goalscoring records of Higuain and Immobile, who scored 36 goals in the 2015-2016 and 2019-2020 seasons, respectively.

It will be difficult, but with Malen in such good form, nothing is impossible. Meanwhile, the striker is working to overcome a slight knee problem and be ready for the match against Como on October 11th at the Sinigaglia stadium.
