Pellegrini: “It’s too early to talk about a title race.”

Lorenzo Pellegrini is being honored tonight at the Premio Colalucci, at the Antico Circolo Tiro a Volo.

The Giallorossi number 7 has been out of action since last April due to injury and could return after the break. He spoke about this and Roma’s current form on the sidelines of the event.

Regarding his condition, he explained: “I’m fine. First of all, thank you for being here. As you said, let’s celebrate this return, because I’m finally available again. I was on the bench for the last two games before the international break, but I had just returned and wasn’t ready yet. This break came at the perfect time, because I had the chance to train, push myself, and even practice. So I’m very happy and excited about this restart.”

Pellegrini then spoke about Roma’s current situation, which will restart at the top of the table: “I believe fans should always dream, just as anyone who plays sports should always dream. I don’t think anyone steps onto the pitch to play a football, tennis, or any other sport expecting to lose. So we’re all always dreaming. It’s only been five games, and I haven’t been in them, but the lads have been exceptional, fantastic. It’s always a bit of an unknown when you start the season, but I could already see from training that the level was high. I’m super happy because I think we all deserve this great wave of enthusiasm we’re experiencing. Let’s continue on this path, hoping it lasts a long time, so that we can then, towards the end of March, set some limits and set some more concrete goals.”

And on Sunday’s lunchtime clash against Como and the Scudetto race: “I think it’s really hard to say now, because we’re only in the first few league games. We’re restarting after a really long break, and that’s new for us too: not playing for three weeks can make it difficult to get back on track. We also have a lot of commitments, because then we’ll be playing midweek in the Champions League, so it will certainly be complicated. It’s hard to say whoever wins this match will be the anti-Inter, because the championship is long and has only just begun. We’re coming off, as I said before, a break like never before. It will certainly be a great match, and I think that will be the highlight for those who watch it.”

He then concluded by talking about the renewal: “I’ve always done what I felt like doing, what I believed would make me happy. I’m proud of this; you should never compromise when you do what you feel. And above all, when you respect the love you have for yourself, for what you do, and for those you do it for. And for us in Rome, this is very important.”
