Gasperini’s Roma, despite playing with ten men from the 53rd minute, managed to maintain their streak of consecutive positive results achieved before the break at Como.
The Giallorossi drew 0-0 and left the Sinigaglia stadium disappointed at not having taken the lead in the first half.
The Roman side came close to making it 0-1, especially with Paulo Dybala coming just meters away from Butez and with Pellegrini hitting the post. Roma (14), after six matchdays, are two points behind the top spot held by Inter and Lazio (16).
Gasperini’s Roma, after the draw against Como, rose to 14 points thanks to four wins and two draws.
The Grugliasco-born coach left the Sinigaglia stadium satisfied, given their numerical inferiority from the 53rd minute following Malen’s red card: “I didn’t celebrate the draw itself, but rather the team’s spirit. It wasn’t easy to play a third of the game with ten men. We did it with clarity. Last year, we lost here with ten men. This year, it was a different feeling.”
This is Roma’s true growth. The Giallorossi once again demonstrated their unwavering commitment, never giving an inch even with ten men. Gasperini’s team didn’t concede any clear scoring opportunities to Como, who didn’t go much beyond a fairly sterile possession game. Gollini did well in his low runs when called upon.
Compared to last season, Roma have already collected 4 more points against the same opponents, all of which came in the big matches against Atalanta (2), Inter (1) and Como (1). Analysing the calendar, Roma’s improvements are eloquent, now Gasp will concentrate on the Champions League (match against Real Madrid), in the hope of remaining undefeated in all competitions.
