Massimiliano Allegri was outraged when he was sent off shortly after Balerdi’s goal.
The Tuscan coach put on a typical show, removing his jacket and getting a red card: “Why was I sent off? Because I kept quiet. They’ll fine me now, and we’ll do charity work this time too,” he said at a press conference.
But what sparked discussion were his off-camera remarks. Allegri shouted: “Last year they put the Champions League in their pocket. Always them…” These words were heard inside the Maradona press room.
He was referring to last year’s Champions League run, which ended with the Giallorossi in third place and Milan in the Europa League, trailing Como and Roma.
