Roma has officially lost another transfer target. Summerville is a new player from Al Hilal.
The Dutch winger was one step away from wearing the Giallorossi jersey, but the Saudi club’s push has turned the situation upside down: £55 million plus £10 million in bonuses immediately convinced West Ham to sell their star.
The 2001-born player was also showered with money, which is why the deal with Roma fell through.
The Riyadh club welcomed Summerville with several social media videos and, secretly—and not even that much for the more attentive—wanted to provoke the Roman club.
Ah Hilal made Summerville’s arrival official with a statement: “The board of directors of Al-Hilal Club Company, chaired by His Highness Prince Nawaf bin Saad, has signed Dutch midfielder Crysencio Summerville on a four-year contract.”
The Riyadh-based club took to social media to tease Roma with a jibe to introduce the 2001-born player. A well-known proverb associated with the capital is: “All roads lead to Rome.” Ah Hilal wanted to change the destination, referencing Summerville’s choice to go to Saudi Arabia rather than Gasperini’s team: “All roads lead to Riyadh.”
