The EFC (formerly ECA) general meeting is currently underway. All members of the European football elite and beyond have gathered at the Cavalieri Roma Hotel.
Among them is Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, president of PSG and the European body.
On the main stage of the event, the Qatari businessman offered warm words for his colleague and Roma president, Dan Friedkin.
“I would like to give a special thank you to Dan Friedkin. He and his team have done an extraordinary job, and this is the best general meeting in our history. Without him, it wouldn’t have been like this. He’s one of the most elegant people I’ve ever met.”
He then concluded: “I have a little thought for you” – and presented him with a commemorative jersey.
Al-Khelaïfi also previously addressed the current state of European football and the work of the EFC.
“I believe in the future and I think it’s bright. We shouldn’t be afraid of change. We changed the cup format and people were afraid, but we can say it’s the greatest success we’ve faced. We must continue to grow. Four years ago, we had 246 clubs; we want to reach 1,000. Some people said to me, ‘Are you crazy?’ Today, we have 830 clubs and we’ll get there soon. We’re here for football because we love it. We’re thinking about how to develop our sport. We have fans all over the world, and we need to think about fans in every region.”
