Roma legend Bruno Conti spoke at length about the Giallorossi players involved in the upcoming EUROs with Italy.

From Pellegrini to Frattesi, passing through Calafiori, Scamacca and Spalletti, Bruno Conti gave an interview to Il Messaggero, during which he spoke about the national team, but also about Rome and the talents who have passed through Trigoria over the years.

“I’m sure Spalletti will do well, he knows how to prepare the team for this kind of challenge,” said Conti of the former Giallorossi boss.

“It’s a shame there was little time available, but I’m sure we’ll see an Italy that is up to par with the others this year.”

“I was one of the first ones to believe in Spalletti. It was 2005, I was coaching Roma, there was a need to lend a hand to fix a cursed season, a season that was getting worse with each passing hour.”

“And the club had to look for my replacement to rebuild and give me back my role as club executive. We went to play a semi-final of the Coppa Italia in Udine, Roma went through but risked losing it from the first to the last minute, we completely overwhelmed by Spalletti’s team.”

“I was impressed by how his team played and I said to myself, why not take him to Roma? With Daniele Pradé and Rosella Sensi we chose him as the man of the future. Lucio accepted with enthusiasm and then those following seasons were good for Roma and for himself.”

“Pellegrini? Lorenzo has grown a lot in recent years, he is more responsible, he wears the Roma captain’s armband with passion and now also the “ten” in the national team.”

“He was one of the strong points in the various youth sector teams and is now a cornerstone of De Rossi’s Roma. He deserves to enjoy this European Championship, given that he had to miss the previous one due to injury. So it’s the right opportunity for Lorenzo.”

“Frattesi? A force of nature, he also came to us very young. He is a complete midfielder: running, ability to play, he scores goals.”

“Calafiori? Riccardo was unlucky with us. He was, and is, a wonderful talent. He has a high head, physical strength, intelligence. It’s a shame that he suffered a bad injury a few years ago, when he was still a boy. Roma made their choices for him, he is now coming off a fantastic season with Bologna and I can only be happy for him.”

“Scamacca? Gianluca made that choice to go to PSV, now he has returned to Italy where Gasperini has had the opportunity to work with him and help him grow. He is a complete striker, he plays right and left, he is strong and technical.”
