Distance between Roma’s offer and Smalling’s demands for long-term deal

Andy Mattioli

Roma are in talks to extend Chris Smalling’s stay in the Italian capital.

The English defender’s current contract with the club is set to expire in June. Smalling is yet to trigger the option to extend his contract with the Giallorossi and is thus negotiating the possibility of making it a long-term deal.

So far, Roma have offered him a two-year contract which, for the time being, does not meet the player’s demands, reports Sky Sport.

Smalling has made it clear that his wish is to remain in the Italian capital, but an agreement must be found between both sides. In the meantime, Juventus are tracking the player ahead of free agency.
