Roma attacker Stephan El Shaarawy was asked about his recent duties as team captain under Gian Piero Gasperini.

In an interview as part of the AS Roma Podcast, El Shaarawy said, “We’re working hard, with great intensity, which is what the coach is asking for as a priority. Everyone is very willing and enthusiastic. The conditions are in place to do well this season.”

“Wearing the captain’s armband of Roma is something special. You feel the weight of an entire city’s history, you feel compelled to give everything and hold nothing back. This is what I’ve done and will always do, with or without the armband.”

“Those who know me know that I’ve always given everything for Roma, that I’ve always given my all when called upon, and that’s how it will continue to be. The coach has been clear about this: he wants more players in the locker room who lead the group, who convey the right spirit, a sense of belonging.”

“Here, there are players who have been here a long time, like myself, Lorenzo, Bryan, and Mancio, who have done so over the years. There are other players who have been here a shorter time but have a lot of experience. There’s the right mix to get things going in the right direction.”
