De Rossi never excluded him from the starting formation, hinting at an important role on Sunday when Roma are scheduled to face Cagliari in their Serie A season opener.

In Roma’s friendlies, he played as a deep midfielder, then alongside Cristante, also as a playmaker and finally central attacking midfielder.
The former Rennes player combines quantity with quality, is able to recover the ball and be seen between the lines and to raise the team’s center of gravity and speed up the game vertically.
