Former Roma man Nicolo Zaniolo has found himself at the receiving end of much criticism from Aston Villa fans.

Aston Villa  recently lost against Manchester City 4-1 in a crucial match-up that counts not only for the Champions League race both teams are in, but for the Premier League title race as well.

In City’s 2-1 goal, a free kick from Phil Foden, Villa fans did not mince words on social media in attributing the responsibility to Nicolò Zaniolo.

On Foden’s free kick, the former Roma player moved away from the barrier, failing to shield the goal defended by Robin Olsen, the trajectory of the ball kicked by the Englishman passed right into that space left free by Zaniolo and then pierced the goalkeeper giving the decisive push to City for the final victory.

On various social media the fans’ attacks were very harsh and direct against the number 22, with phrases such as: “Go back to Italy” or “It’s all Zaniolo’s fault.”

The Italian attacker is being increasingly with a swift return to Galatasaray at the end of the season once his loan in England comes to an end.
