Former Roma midfielder Gerson has fallen ill and is being looked after in hospital in Brazil.
Gerson – who was a member of the Giallorossi from 2016 until 2019 – has been diagnosed with kidney infection.
His current club, Flamengo, announced his admission to the local hospital.
“Gerson complained of abdominal pain when he arrived at the Training Center today,” reads the club’s official statement. “And was taken to Barra hospital for checks.”
“The results showed hydronephrosis with renal infection. After the specialist’s evaluation, the player will remain hospitalized to undergo further tests and continue medical treatment.”
