Roma wins against Cagliari and draws level with Juventus for fourth place in the table.
Donyell Malen’s brace proved decisive at the Olimpico, giving three crucial points to Gian Piero Gasperini’s team.
After the final whistle, the Giallorossi coach commented on the victory and more.
Speaking to Sky Sport, he said: “We played an excellent match. We had a remarkable pace in the first half.”
“This team always responds, and they did so after the defeat against Udine. It’s a shame we didn’t double our lead in the first half, because after that, the games remain open.”
Gasperini commented on Malen’s performance: “We have to be good at supporting him, serving him well. He’ll score a lot of goals. His characteristics are difficult to maintain; he has a vast repertoire. Is he like Van Basten? He was different. Like Vialli, he has this ability to free himself and attack deep.”
And on Palestra: “He’s a top player for a 2005 player. We started having him train with the Atalanta first team when he was 17, then he joined the Under-23s. That experience between Serie C and the first team was useful to him. Now he’s grown a lot and plays like a top player.”
Gasperini then commented on the lack of use of VAR this evening: “Not even a single intervention today, which was beautiful, would have been ideal. It means everything went smoothly and we even had more play. This is fortunate; it means the referee saw every incident. A perfect match.”
And on the attack: “We always try to be on par with our rivals; we’re there. They all have very skilled attacks, just go and watch them. It’s not easy for us to play against these teams. We have the hope and desire to grow in attack. Malen gives us much more. We hope to recover Dybala, Hermoso, Koné, and the injured players. To achieve certain goals, it’s clear you need a prolific attack.”
