Gian Piero Gasperini, in his new role as winemaker, gave an interview to Corriere della Sera in which he also spoke about his Roma career.
The Grugliasco-born coach began with a connection to Freisa “343,” his new wine: “It’s my way of seeing football. But numbers only matter so much. The key is playing as a team: believing in a collective effort, where attackers defend and defenders attack. Let’s be honest: in football, as in wine, nothing is invented. It’s team spirit that makes the difference. It takes dedication and altruism.”
The Giallorossi coach doubted his own ideas: “I faltered several times. Being fired from Inter was perhaps the worst moment. But I was able to get back up. And I owe a lot to Atalanta, who continued to trust me, even when the results weren’t coming.”
Gian Piero Gasperini spoke about his bond with Atalanta: “Bergamo was the longest and most intense stage of my life as a football wanderer. I have no regrets, but I feel a deep nostalgia for a community where I integrated perfectly. It’s no coincidence that I return often. I miss everything about Bergamo.”
Gasperini joked about his experience in Rome: “It’s a completely different reality, obviously. But it’s not a bad city. The biggest problem is the food. I have to be careful with the carbonara; I’m gaining too much weight.”
The Grugliasco-born coach on his desire to win the Scudetto in the capital: “Our plan was to get there in three years. We wouldn’t mind getting there sooner. But we know it’s a long road. In football, there are no straight paths or clear-cut routes. There will be ups and downs. If we can manage them, who knows…”
