Domenico Borelli, Gasperini’s longtime athletic trainer and a key figure in the Giallorossi staff, analyzed Roma’s current situation in an interview with Corriere dello Sport.

“Gasperini? His strength is that he’s an honest person: he always says what he thinks. Perhaps for some, that’s also his biggest flaw. We both always demand the best from our players.”

“We think about pushing ourselves beyond our limits to reach the top. Victories also help mentally; without them, the work done seems ineffective.”

“The team’s intensity? We’ve been working to be at our best now, from October to February, then we’ll analyze the situation in March. Since our game is situational, a player can have more intensity in one match than another: it depends on what he experiences on the pitch and who he’s facing. There are games where you need a lot of sprinting and others where you need a lot of acceleration, because we play in tight spaces. Our job is to prepare the players athletically, also based on the opponent.”

“Who’s grown the most? I’d like to mention Pellegrini. He started with an injury, made himself available immediately, trained hard, and it’s right that he gets credit after the criticism. Lorenzo is highly motivated: it was only a matter of time.”
