Mario Hermoso spoke to Sky Sport on the eve of the match against Fenerbahce.
“We play every three days, and it’s important for us to play these types of games. We want to start well,” the Spanish center-back began.
The defender, who scored the goal that sparked the comeback against Atalanta, commented on the emotions of playing in Europe’s premier competition: “This is the most beautiful and difficult tournament in the world. The best teams play here, and to get here you need to have had a great season. We’re happy and ready to get off to a good start.”
Hermoso then praised Gasperini’s style of play: “Gasperini’s style of football is very well suited to European football. The coach demands a pressing and intense style of football suited to these European nights. We have the will to arrive and implement all the situations the coach practices in training and explains to us in the locker room.”
Finally, the Spaniard spoke about the team: “We are clearly growing. When Gasp arrived here, he instilled in each of us the mentality of growing as a team, and he did the same with the players who arrived. From last year to this year, we have grown, we are all happy with how we play and with the big step we have taken in reaching this stage. We want to do well and continue our work.”
