The poor performances at the World Cup are now a distant memory.
Donyell Malen picked up where he left off, scoring. Roma’s number 14, with his hat-trick against Fiorentina, now has 17 goals in 19 appearances for the Giallorossi.
It was a stellar performance that allowed him to take the ball home, thanks in part to three assists from Paulo Dybala. His three goals against Fiorentina, incidentally, are a league record.
No one in the last ten years has managed a hat-trick on the opening day of Serie A.
The last to do so was Colombian Carlos Bacca in the 2016-2017 season: the victim, then, was Torino.
Malen had already scored 14 goals last season, almost reaching the top of the scoring charts. This is a goal he can absolutely aim for this year: the prospects, after last night’s hat-trick, are excellent.
