During the EFC assembly, being held at the Cavalieri Hotel in Rome from October 7th to 9th, Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri and Roma President Dan Friedkin met to discuss various issues related to the new stadium that will likely host the Trigoria club starting in 2028.
The mayor made the following statement from the main stage: “It’s a pleasure for the city of Rome to host this event. I want to greet President Al-Khelaifi and all the other presidents of European clubs. This is an important edition because the name has changed and choosing a city like Rome was appropriate, and we are delighted with this decision. I would like to thank Dan Friedkin for accompanying you all, and I would also like to greet Lazio President Claudio Lotito.”
“Rome is a city of sport; the Municipality of Rome has invested in sport by creating facilities throughout the city. Furthermore, we have donated numerous sports products to over 500 schools throughout the city.”
Finally, a comment on the new stadium: “The EFC Foundation puts fans at the center of the action, an issue we know well in Rome. We want to improve the stadiums and facilities. We are working towards this together with the city’s two main clubs. I would like to emphasize Italy’s commitment to the EFC; there are 38 clubs, both men’s and women’s.”
“This assembly represents an important moment and celebrates football in all its forms. Rome is pleased to share this transition; in this city, sport represents community and a desire to be together. It has been this way for thousands of years: from Roman festivals to sporting events like the Olympics and the World Cup.”
“This will continue into the future. We are in the final stages of construction of Roma’s new stadium; it will be one of the most beautiful in the world. It will bring with it a complete urban redevelopment, creating green spaces for residents and sports facilities. Rome is a city that speaks to the world; I hope this meeting can create a new beginning for European football.”
