Former Real Madrid and Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil discussed the important role Jose Mourinho played in his career.
In light of his recent decision to retire from football, Ozil gave an interview to Marca where he analyzed the Special One’s impact.
“For me José Mourinho is the best coach of this century,” said the German international. “His tactical understanding is another thing, but also his way of speaking in the locker room, how he always protects his team in front of the media.”
“He is truly a world class coach. I chose Real for him. He took me to see the stadium and all the trophies they had won. This gave me goosebumps. In comparison, Guardiola was a major let-down.”
“I wanted to become a Madridista because of Mourinho,” Ozil concluded.
