Former Roma man Henrikh Mkhitaryan discussed his playing days in the Italian capital as well as his move to Inter in the summer of 2022.
“It all started in mid-August 2019. Raiola called me and said, ‘We have to leave because you’re not happy. Do you prefer Milan or Roma?’ I said I wanted to play, then at that time Milan were focused on buying Taison from Shakhtar and I told them, ‘Well, in that case, it’s better to go to Rome.'”
“The welcome I received was incredible. I also experienced that moment and I’m very grateful. The club is very warm and the people are crazy, in a positive sense. I rediscovered the happiness and pleasure of playing football. From day one, everything went great.”
“My farewell? It all started after my second year at Roma, when I got that call from Ausilio telling me Inter wanted me. After that call, we never spoke again. Then, in my third season at Roma, there was talk of a contract renewal. Tiago Pinto knew I liked the city and that I wanted to finish my career there.”
“After playing against Inter, Ausilio called me back. We were still in the running and had to play the Conference League final, but I said yes because Roma wasn’t very clear with me. Roma told me to talk to Mourinho and tell him what I wanted. But it was late, and I had already given my word to Inter.”
