Lorenzo Pellegrini lost his armband at the start of the season, but he remains a key figure in the dressing room.

The player’s contract is expiring, and his contractual situation is a hotly debated topic at Trigoria. “We shouldn’t have gotten to this point, but I have no doubt that players whose contracts are expiring will give their all until the end,” said Gian Piero Gasperini, commenting on the matter.

The Giallorossi’s number 7, according to Il Corriere dello Sport, is hoping for a renewal at the end of the season.

At Trigoria, there’s a new policy aimed at reducing the wage bill, and Pellegrini, who earns around €6 million, will also have to comply with the new guidelines. For this very reason, rumors of interest from England are becoming increasingly insistent.

Pellegrini provides Gasperini with a versatility that few players in the Roma squad possess in that position. Despite some subpar games, the attacking midfielder has started several times, despite his injuries.

He should also start against Napoli. In a physical and tactical match against a coach like Antonio Conte, who has repeatedly attempted to bring him to the Azzurri, Pellegrini could guarantee presence on both sides of the pitch, unlike a more attacking player like Paulo Dybala.
