Renan Lodi is no longer on Roma’s radar.
For days, the Brazilian defender, considered a potential replacement for Gian Piero Gasperini’s left flank, is now one step away from a permanent return to his homeland.
According to Matteo Moretto, the Brazilian defender is close to signing with Clube Atlético Mineiro, who have offered a secure five-year contract.
In recent days, Sporting Director Frederic Massara had initiated exploratory discussions with the agents of the 1998-born defender, who was released last September following the end of his time at Al-Hilal.
Roma were looking for a replacement to address the shortcomings of Tsimikas and the long layoff of Angeliño, but negotiations never reached a decisive conclusion.
Lodi had already expressed strong openness to a return to Brazil in recent weeks, and Atlético Mineiro’s long-term proposal has definitively dashed any hopes of seeing him at Trigoria under Gasperini.
