Daniele De Rossi’s arrival in the Italian capital resulted in Mile Svilar becoming Roma’s new number one option in goal.

Since De Rossi’s managerial takeover, Svilar proved to be a reliable first-choice shot-stopper, overtaking Rui Patricio in the manager’s hierarchy.

With Roma set to offer Svilar a new deal, Corriere della Sera reveals an interesting look on what went on behind the scenes prior to Jose Mourinho’s dismissal in January.

According to the Italian newspaper, Svilar had become extremely discouraged with his limited playing time under Mourinho.

So much so that the 25-year-old goalie had asked to be moved in the January window in search of a more prominent role elsewhere.

After his exclusion from Roma’s line-up in the Coppa Italia vs Lazio, Svilar had gone as far as asking Roma to be sold in the summer.

However, De Rossi changed the goal-keeper’s trajectory and now Svilar is projected to stay at Roma for years to come.
