Whispers from France claim PSG showed interest in Nemanja Matic prior to his decision to join Rennes from Roma.

The Serbian midfielder – who recently had a falling out with Jose Mourinho and teammates at Roma – is said to have been contacted by Paris Saint-Germain.

According to Footmercato, PSG made an attempt to sign Matic earlier this month. However, the French giants had to withdraw from the race for the veteran midfielder as Matic had already given his word to Stade Rennais.

Last night, Matic departed the Italian capital and is expected to be announced as a new Rennes player in the coming hours.
