The long-running saga between Roma and Palmeiras over Richard Rios has come to an end.
After weeks of discussions, the Colombian midfielder has chosen to move to Benfica.
Despite having long been a priority for Gian Piero Gasperini’s midfield, Rios expressed uncertainty about his move to Roma, prompting the Roman club to shift their attention to Neil El Aynaoui.
The two options, though pursued side by side, were not considered alternatives.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the decisive move was made by Benfica sporting director Rui Pedro Braz, who sealed the deal in Brazil for €30 million, payable in three installments.
Richard Rios is expected in Lisbon next week to undergo a medical and finalize his transfer to the Portuguese club.
