For passionate and loyal Italian Serie A fans, there is only one match day to go in the 2025/26 domestic league campaign and the battle at the top of the top flight table has long been decided with Inter Milan continuing to hold a 13 point gap over Napoli.
Napoli no doubt have the runners up spot secured for this campaign as they hold a three point advantage over chasers AC Milan and AS Roma and it would take an interesting final days curtain closing set of results to see those final finishing positions materially change, but it is possible on goal difference.
The final relegation place this campaign comes down to a one point shoot out between Leece and Cremonese. Pisa and Hellas Verona are already consigned to a future in Serie B and whilst that will be an interesting distraction, fans of I Giallorossi will have their eyes on the top and then attentions will turn to the coming 2026/27 campaign after the latest world cup news serves as a useful temporary distraction.
The vast majority of the Stadio Olimpico regulars will feel that with some sensible strengthening this summer, 68 year old manager Gian Piero Gasperini could well go one step further next term and at least make more of a sustained challenge on second place and the runners up spot.
Should Napoli lose, it could well be achieved this year, but the whole club would undoubtedly would want it secure and more in the bag so that a more real and better tilt at the title could actually be made.
Amongst the many players that we are being linked with on the transfer window speculation rumour mill, more recent favourites this week have been RB Leipzig’s Antonio Nusa, West Ham United’s Crysencio Summerville and Olypique Marseille’s Mason Greenwood. With Gasperini’s control at AS Roma has been growing and it is strongly believed that he will now have the final say over recruitment this summer, and given the style of play that he appeared to prefer whilst back with Atalanta, whoever we do ultimately end up going for when we have finalised our shortlists for the window should be far better suited to that kind of system and set up.
Most would probably accept that Nusa, Summerville and Greenwood would fit into how the manager would more prefer the team to play, but individual preference would dictate as to whether or not individual Roma fans felt that they would be worthwhile captures, or marked improvements on what we already have at our disposal.
21 year old attacker Nusa would feel the most likely out of the three to be accurate given it was heavily reported that we made a formal approach last summer, and that our interest in the New Year window only came to an end when it was obvious that they would hold to their 60 million Euro valuation.
Whilst some reports suggest that they would now listen to offers 10 million Euro or so less, others are claiming that he has pretty significant interest from the English Premier League which would, by default, drive his price up you would think.
As ever, we will simply have to see what the off season brings, but for now it is all eyes back to the final day.
