Roma are looking to part ways with Chris Smalling in order to free up space on the club’s wage bill.

The English defender seems destined to leave the club before the end of the summer.

The reason for this exclusion being Smalling’s inconsistent fitness levels that caused him to miss the majority of last season.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Roma are actively looking for buyers.

The newspaper suggest Roma sporting director Florent Ghisolfi is specifically canvassing the Saudi Pro League in search of reasonable offers for the 34-year-old whose contract with the Giallorossi is set to expire next year.

The defender recently met with his agent during Roma’s training camp in England and the two discussed the possibility of a transfer this summer.
