Twelve months later, the music has changed.
Last year, Roma struggled to score; this year, the Giallorossi have already scored ten goals in their first three games. The same number was reached last season on matchday nine, October 29th.
A change of pace that’s clear for all to see, and it’s not just Malen who’s on the scoresheet.
Five different scorers have found the net: in addition to the Dutchman, Soulé, Pisilli, Hermoso, and Mora also found the net. But the most surprising statistic is something else. Roma hadn’t scored so many goals after the first 270 minutes in 66 years.
We have to go back to the 1960/1961 season, when the images were still in black and white and the Giallorossi had only one Scudetto under their belt. A lifetime ago.
That season, they scored a whopping twelve goals: three against Bari, six against Udinese, and another three against Torino.
At the end of the year, Alfredo Foni’s team finished fifth but won the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. The hope is to be able to lift a trophy that has been missing since 2022 under Mourinho.
