As every AS Roma fan knows, Daniele De Rossi’s spell as interim manager of the club until the end of the 2023/24 campaign has gone far better than anyone had initially expected when he walked through the Stadio Olimpico doors back in mid-January.
The 40 year old was a club and country legend in defensive midfield, having picked up 117 Italian caps during his long and successful playing career, and having stepped into our dug out, after 14 matches he has won nine, and picked up three draws. As well as shooting back up the Serie A table and being in with a chance of a potential Champions League adventure next season, we continue to progress well in the Europa League and given the turn of form under De Rossi, it is looking like it will be a very successful end to the season.
Very few in the Giallorossi fan base, or even those with a bet365 bonus code, would have seen this as being the outcome given the form we were showing under Jose Mourinho, but our gaffer has certainly seized the spotlight and has impressed many in the wider world of football with how quickly he got the players on side, and then got them performing.
There have even been reports that the Roma board are now seriously considering appointing him to the job on a permanent basis given how he has settled into the role, but until a firm contract offer is made, speculation about his future will continue and that will involve other potential suitors wanting to come in for him during the summer.
Fiorentina are one side who have already reportedly made their interest known to him, but the rumors suggest that De Rossi is yet to get back to them with a definitive answer, as he is waiting to see what Roma are prepared to offer first.
With his six month deal in place taking him through to the end of the campaign, De Rossi’s stock is very high at the moment and fans will be wanting the club to act quickly here, not only to show further faith in the gaffer but also to put an end to the speculation on the rumor mill, as everyone can then better plan for the 2024/25 campaign that lies ahead.
If Fiorentina have made a formal offer to him, and do want him to replace the outgoing Vincenzo Italiano for the coming campaign, then simply put, Roma will have to move quickly as although we will be his priority, his patience will not be infinite.
