Romelu Lukaku’s hot start at Roma has prompted the Giallorossi to inquire about extending his stay beyond this season.

The Belgian striker joined the capital club on a dry loan from Chelsea earlier this summer.

However, the Blues – intent on parting ways with Lukaku at the end of the season – inserted a release clause in his contract which is estimated to be worth around €42 million (or £37 million).

This fee would only be attainable for Roma in case of the club’s qualification for next year’s Champions League.

Moreover, Roma would have to take into consideration competition in the form of Juventus and Milan – two teams who have expressed interest in a long-term signing for Lukaku, reports calciomercato.com.

Additionally, Saudi clubs are also expected to come knocking on Chelsea’s door after their failed attempts this past summer.
