Speaking to Rai Sport, Luciano Spalletti returned to talk about his farewell to the national team and made a prediction for the start of the new Serie A season.
“Unfortunately, what happened hasn’t gone away and will never go away. I’m a man who does things based on feelings, not interests. With the national team, I felt like I was in heaven. I gave it my all. I wasn’t able to give anything.”
“I’m sorry for having disappointed expectations. I take full responsibility. I chose the players, the Federation supported me. I’m sorry for the fans. I didn’t contribute to the growth of the national team. Nothing slips away from me, everything consumes me. Italian football is doing well, it’s not regressing.”
“I would choose the players I chose again. Sometimes I haven’t been lucky because some have gone through periods of less physical or psychological fitness, but I consider them quality players.”
“The new season? The favorites are the usual Napoli, Inter, Milan, and Juve, but I hope there are some teams that can get into the race, like Roma and Lazio. I’m happy with the return of Sarri and Allegri; I have great respect for them.”
“I’m curious to see what Gasperini will do away from home, in a major club like Rome. Napoli has a solid foundation, the club has worked very hard. They’re the favorites.”
