Last April, when the goalkeeper’s contract renewal hadn’t yet been signed, Mile Svilar gave an interview to Corriere dello Sport.

“But why should I leave? Roma gave me faith in me at my worst moment; here I found the pitch and happiness. My wife is a dream; who would make her leave here?” he said at the time.

Svilar’s 2025 is turning out to be a perfect year. In addition to the birth of his son, his contract renewal, and his nomination as Serie A’s best goalkeeper, the goalkeeper continues to shine, not disappointing fans who have compared him to Alisson.

Roma has the most clean sheets in the calendar year, 15, and the best defense, having conceded just 13 goals. The start to the season has been no different: the 1999-born player averages 2.5 saves per game.

This is where Post-Shot Expected Goals comes into play, which calculates the probability of a shot going behind the goalkeeper based on the shot’s positioning and trajectory.

Svilar has a PSxG of 3.7, meaning he should have conceded four goals instead of two. An 88.2% save rate has helped keep the Giallorossi at the top of the table.

By maintaining a similar defensive performance and improving their attack, Gian Piero Gasperini’s team could aim for the Champions League, writes Il Corriere dello Sport.
