It is early in Serie A, as only a few games have been played. However, it has not been the start Roma fans had hoped for. Roma currently sits dangerously close to relegation territory and has yet to secure their first win of the season.
Still, oddsmakers give Roma the sixth-best odds of any team winning Serie A, sitting at +3300. There is a lot of soccer still to be played. But what are the other favourites to challenge for the crown this year? Let’s look at who sportsbooks have pegged with the best odds to win Serie A.
Inter Milan (-163)
Inter Milan is widely expected to win Serie A once again this year. The list of sports betting sites that would have them pegged at the top spot is extensive, and they are the outright favourite over the rest of the field. It is not hard to see why. Inter Milan has had a sustained run of success, including a resounding season last year where they won the league by almost 20 points. They currently sit atop the table once again, and they have the superstar talent to stay there, with players like Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram, and Hakan Calhanoglu.
Juventus (+250)
Juventus is one of the league’s premier squads, a club that has won Serie A a record 36 times. Their last win came in 2019-20, and this could be the season where they return to glory. Juventus has a new look after bringing in Thiago Motta following the manager’s incredible season with Bologna. The team is playing responsible, solid defence and has yet to concede a goal. They are aiming for a younger squad and have let some of their biggest names walk. This all adds up to a year filled with potential, and oddsmakers seem to like their chances.
Napoli (+900)
Now two years removed from a legendary season that saw Napoli lift the Serie A trophy, fans are hoping this year will mark another success. Napoli is one of the icons of Italian soccer, and they have plenty of world-class talent that can carry them to glory. Victor Osimhen is one of the world’s best strikers, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is a world-renowned midfielder, and Giovanni Di Lorenzo is a high-quality defender. It all adds up to a team that could challenge the top of the table this year, even though they have already sustained an ugly early season loss.
AC Milan (+1400)
AC Milan is one of the giants of the sport. They are a club with global renown that has won Serie A 19 times, most recently in 2021-22. They are typically found at the top of the table but have gotten off to an unfortunate start to the year, much like Roma. There is still enough talent on the squad to get back to their typical position and maybe even challenge their hated rival, Inter, for the top spot. Rafael Leao, Alvaro Morata, Christian Pulisic, and Theo Hernandez are all top-tier players who can carry this team to victories against the rest of the league.
Atalanta (+2200)
Atalanta has never won Serie A, so expecting them to do so this year would make for a risky bet. However, they finished last year within striking distance and earned their right to play in the Champions League this season. The start of the year has not gone according to plan for Atalanta, who find themselves in a similar position to Roma. There is hope for the team, particularly with Mateo Retegui off to a blistering start to his season. But a lot needs to go right for Atalanta to even threaten the top tier of Serie A this season.
Lazio (+6600)
Roma’s hated rivals are off to a start that has them at the middle of the table, but the year is young. It is worth noting that Lazio’s odds are well below those of Roma, according to most oddsmakers, even if Roma’s start has not been the most promising.
Lazio haven’t lifted a league title since 2000 and sportsbooks don’t seem to like their odds of doing it again this season. The Biancocelesti are currently in a transitional phase under new manager Marco Baroni, bidding farewell to several veterans including Ciro Immobile and Felipe Anderson.
Fiorentina (+15000)
Fiorentina has consistently found themselves at the middle of the Serie A table over the past half-decade. They have not won Serie A since 1968-69, and have seen several high-quality players leave their roster recently. However, don’t underestimate Fiorentina. Oddsmakers have them as a massive longshot to make any noise in the league this year, and that is likely fair. But they can still pose a challenge to any team in the league, and if everything all comes together, never say never. But with so many talented Serie A teams and Roma poised to kick into gear, we wouldn’t bet on it.
