2019/2020 seasons for Ligue 1, Ligue 2 cancelled

As Serie A awaits its fate for the 2019/2020 season, the French government is set to announce the suspension of football in the country until August.

French outlet RMC reports that the government will announce the measures in the coming hours, which will signal the cancellation of the 2019/2020 seasons for Ligue 1 and Ligue 2.

The French football association (LFP) will meet next month to discuss how European qualification, promotion, and relegation will be handled.

French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe will make the announcement momentarily as the 2020/2021 season is set to commence in August in France.

It remains to be seen how the Italian football association (FIGC) will move forward — but the resounding consensus is that it will be extremely difficult to finish the remainder of the 2019/2020 campaign for Italy’s top flight.
