Pep Guardiola pays tribute to Carlo Mazzone

Manchester City boss and former Brescia player Pep Guardiola paid tribute to ex-Roma manager Carlo Mazzone.

Following Mazzone’s passing earlier last night at the age 86, Guardiola – who worked with Mazzone at Brescia – wore a T-shirt displaying Mazzone’s famous run to Atalanta’s Curva during a breath-taking 3-3 draw in 2001.

Guardiola discussed Mazzone’s significance in his life in at full-time of City’s win over Newcastle.

“It’s a sad day for me and my family. When I arrived in Italy, Mazzone was like a father to me,” Guardiola told reporters.

“He was a legend in Italian football, he had a huge impact on everyone from players to presidents. I send a huge hug to all his family: last year some friends sent me this shirt and I wanted to wear it today.”
