Roma defender Chris Smalling is facing an unclear timeline of recovery.

Suffering from a chronic case of tendinopathy, the English centreback has failed to return to group training after missing almost two months of action.

Smalling’s last performance was against Milan on 1 September.

Following that match, Roma decided to work on his injury in order to try and lessen the pain.

However, Leggo reports that Smalling’s chronic pain hasn’t subsided and the player is still ruled out for the club’s upcoming engagements.

Jose Mourinho seems to be displeased with the situation and with Smalling’s hesitance to return to group training activities due to his fear of making the pain more acute.

The Special One is hoping to have Smalling back for the Derby della Capitale in two weeks, but his availability is far from guaranteed.
