Roma are no longer interested in signing veteran defender Leonardo Bonucci.

After careful consideration – Corriere dello Sport reports – Roma have made the decision to withdraw from negotiations with Leonardo Bonucci’s entourage.

The capital club had been engaged in discussions over a short-term deal for the ex-Juventus centreback who was eager to return to Serie A after an unsuccessful spell at Union Berlin.

According to the Italian newspaper, Roma’s decision is not solely motivated by financial reasons – the club have are looking to further strengthen their backline and seem more inclined toward selecting a younger reinforcement instead of the 36-year-old Bonucci.

Roma President Dan Friedkin is said to have personally vetoed the signing of Bonucci.
