Roma attacker Sardar Azmoun departed the Italian capital earlier today in the direction of Qatar.
Azmoun – who took part in last night’s defeat to Lazio, earning a red card in the final minutes of added time – is set to join the Iran national team for the Asian Cup tournament.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Azmoun had initially promised Roma that he would not leave mid-season for international duty. However, the Iran federation applied considerable pressure on the player and club to respond to the national team’s call-up.
As a result, Roma will not be able to rely on the 29-year-old striker for the next few weeks.
