Mile Svilar becomes first Roma goalkeeper to save 3 penalties since 2003

Andy Mattioli

Mile Svilar is on an impressive roll after emerging as Roma’s number one option in goal.

The 24-year-old shot-stopper overtook Rui Patricio in Daniele De Rossi’s hierarchy, leading Roma in several key games as one of their top players, most notably in the penalty shoot-out against Feyenoord and more recently with Fiorentina at the Artemio Franchi stadium.

According to ForzaRoma.info, on Sunday evening, as Roma were able to draw level with Fiorentina at the death primarily thanks to his saved penalty on Biraghi, Svilar became the first Roma goalkeeper to save 3 penalties in one season since 2002/03 when Francesco Antonioli did the same against the likes of Hubner, Mihajlovic and Roberto Baggio.
