Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini discussed the team’s bitter defeat to Bayer Leverkusen and their elimination from this year’s Europa League.

In his post-match interview with Sky Sport, Pellegrini said, “It’s a great shame to walk out of here empty-handed after aving played this incredible match.”

“It felt like we could hurt them and then they are strong and you have to know how to suffer. They played well, they are an excellent team.”

“Certain episodes made it clear that they were bound to go to the final, not us. If an episode in the first leg had gone our way it would have been different and we wouldn’t have done well tonight.”

“Atalanta? I’m always happy when an Italian team goes to the final, we hoped two would get there. What we did today is incredible, against one of the strongest teams ever.”

“We knew we could hurt them. When you get to a certain level the episodes make a difference, this time it did for them. What should give us energy is that we played against one of the fittest teams in the world. Now let’s get ready for Sunday, after all the efforts made during the season it’s time to get something back.”
