Roma are hoping to sell Chris Smalling this coming summer.
After a year largely spent on the sidelines injured, the veteran defender has been placed on Roma’s transfer list.
The ex-Man United man has only one year left on his contract with the Giallorossi.
Despite his experience and veteran qualities, De Rossi does not consider Smalling a key player for next season.
His sale would help Roma reduce their wage bill and fund a more functional and sustainable replacement.
However, the situation is complicated as Smalling has failed to draw any interest, reports Il Messaggero.
Smalling’s salary of €3.5 million has proven to be a major obstacle for other clubs.
Roma will continue to search for offers in the hope of selling Smalling a year prior to the expiry of his contract.
