Sources from France claim Roma are seriously working towards the signing of Arnaud Kalimuendo of Rennes.
In recent days, 21-year-old Kalimuendo emerged as the leading candidate to take over Romelu Lukaku’s place in Daniele De Rossi’s team.
With Big Rom set to leave Roma and return from his loan to Chelsea, the Giallorossi are prioritizing his replacement ahead of the summer.
De Rossi’s insistence on a 4-3-3 system has motivated Roma technical director Francois Ghisolfi to suggest Kalimuendo as Lukaku’s heir.
The ex-PSG striker was signed by Ghisolfi at Lens and remains a player the French executive is said to be particularly fond of.
According to French journalist Sebastien Vidal of Weekend Magazine, Kalimuendo has become a real transfer target for Roma.
Vidal reports that Roma have already scheduled a meeting with Kalimuendo’s agents to discuss the possibility of his arrival in the Italian capital this summer.
Kalimuendo’s biggest attributes in Ghisolfi’s eyes are his pace and physicality – the 21-year-old collected 15 goals and 5 assists for Rennes this season and is considered a good prospect and a low-risk investment for the capital club.
The striker’s pricetag is estimated at €20 million.
