Former Roma player Vincent Candela weighed in on Daniele De Rossi’s coaching term so far.
The retired French fullback spoke to Sport Paper TV on the 23rd anniversary of Roma’s last Scudetto win.
“June 17th was a wonderful day. From the departure from Trigoria to the Olimpico. It was an extraordinary match, not an easy one. It was a dream,” Candela said of the historic match against Parma all those years ago.
“It’s something that still arouses emotions today. Too many years have passed and we need to go back to experiencing those evenings together.”
“The present? De Rossi knows the environment and has the aim of returning to winning ways. He will have to have a good feeling with the club and put Roma ahead of everything else.”
“After a bad experience at Spal he arrived at Roma to take Mourinho’s place, and he was the only one who could do it. De Rossi was the right move. He’s inherited a great legacy, with a great responsibility, but he has done well.”
“He could have done a little more by reaching the Champions League, but personally I’m satisfied. He will now have the opportunity to evaluate the players in training camp and with the new sporting director to try to start again and rebuild. You can immediately see the greatness of a coach.”
“The first 20 games of last season proved to weigh on the rest of the campaign. We collected very few points. Something didn’t work between players and coach.”
