Friedkin to triple budget of Cannes as they close in on Everton ownership deal

Andy Mattioli

Exciting times for the Friedkin Group who are ready to expand their reign all the way to the English Premier League.

The American owners of Roma will soon complete the acquisition of Everton Football Club.

In addition to Roma and Everton, the Friedkins will intensify their work at Cannes – the club they purchased a year ago, currently in the fourth French division.

According to L’Equipe, the Texan family intend to invest with a certain force in the French club: after a year of transition, the Friedkins are ready to launch the climb towards professional football.

Over recent months, the number of employees has doubled (from 15 to 30), the changing rooms will soon be renovated, the medical sector will be strengthened, but above all the transfer budget has been tripled.

Cannes will have €4.5 million available to spend on the transfer market – a record figure for a team in that category.

Laborde, current director of the club who arrived in January from Monaco, said: “The ambitions are very clear, we want to return to the professionals.” Sebastien Perez has been the new sports coordinator since the end of March and bases his work on data. Fabien Pujo will be the coach for next season.
