Artem Dovbyk did everything he could to join Roma.

The Ukrainian striker personally pushed for the move to go over the finish line and is now hours away from officially being announced as the newest member of the Giallorossi.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Dovbyk wanted Roma so much that he put in from his own pocket €1.5 million needed to close the deal between Girona and the Giallorossi club.

The newspaper reveals that the attacker had a written agreement with Girona according to which, in the event of a future resale, he would have been entitled to €1.5 million. He chose not to take that money.

Girona were thus able to obtain €1.5 million more in cash which it “discounted” to Roma: Dovbyk thus cost, in short, €38.5 million guaranteed (bonus aside) instead of €40 million (as per the release clause in the player’s contract).

A gesture, yet another, which makes it clear how much Dovbyk only wanted one thing: to get on the plane and land in Italy as soon as possible.
