Roma are reportedly targeting Belgian defender Arthur Theate of Stade Rennais.

After securing Artem Dovbyk, Roma are now planning to bring in an additional centreback to their squad.

Given the unclear future of Marash Kumbulla and physical frailty of Chris Smalling, the Giallorossi are looking at Theate as a suitable reinforcement ahead of next season.

Theate is considered a good fit and versatile enough to be paired with either Mancini or Ndicka, or both.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, after an initial round of inquiries, Roma have opened talks with the player’s camp.

Theate is in talks for a five-year deal worth 2 million euros, writes the newspaper.

Once the agreement is sealed with Theate, Roma will move on to their negotiations with Rennes who are asking for 20 million euros.
